We are 20 million in the hole right now and what does City Council do, add 9 million to it for trash cans. What is their reasoning, "well we have to." No you don't! The plan to go to a one man truck is a great idea. It will save the tax payer millions in overtime and other expenses. However, the decision to buy the cans before a plan is even on the table is a ridiculous decision. For example, if I wanted to build a shed in my back yard I wouldn't go and buy all the wood until after I figured out how I planned to build the shed. Where is common sense, and the madness doesn't stop there.
We already pay taxes for fire service in the city. Why is the Chief Wolever suggesting that the city charges the citizens fees for fire service? He claims that the city would only charge the insurance companies of the home owners but we all know that the charges will be passed on to the companies customers, all of them. And then you have the comments by District 3 Councilman Mike Craig claiming that these funds are in the same vein as "grant money". Mr. Craig, grant money is our taxes money taken from us and given not to the expenses of government but to programs that make elected officials look good in the eyes of voters. Seeing as though we've already paid our taxes for fire service, we would appreciate it if you didn't take our grant money either.

ReplyDeleteBe thankful you don't live in MI, we have the worst economy in the US, highest unemployment, and the only State that had negative GNP in 2006.
ReplyDeleteThere is one thing that has always perplexed me and that is the reference to the 'Government' as if they are this ambiguous figure with no attachment to human beings, that there is just this thing called Government that is making up all these laws, regulations and taxes with no association to the fact that these are people living in our communities.
One wonders how a rational thinking person, with some form of intelligence could actually conceive of so many absurd and completely outrageous ideas which have such a negative impact on our Country. The insane aspect to this is that these individuals are being impacted by the very ideas they implement.
It is true that we as a citizens have allowed certain elements of our Political entities to become isolated to the laws and regulations that they implement, which is by far the greatest mistake we have allowed. Thus leaving little if any accountability accept those who are elected officials but many are appointed and have been employed by you and me with no form of accountability and recompense.
That's right many of the "laws" come from some aid or intern who is suppose to help our elected officials draft these regulations. It also would explain way the are so far away from reality. Only a fresh out of college student, with no real life experience would suggest something as ridiculous as fire fees or taxes for rain run off water.

ReplyDeleteBut in reality government every where is out of control. It appears that they truely think that grant money, stimulus money and any other dollars from Washington are freely gained and so they can free to give it away. Something has to change. It is becoming apparent that no matter who we elect right now, they're going to spend our childrens future for momentary ecomnomic security. Ben Franklin said anyone who is willing to sacrifice their rights (rights to property i.e. money)for security does not deserve their rights or the security it "may" bring.
